Clay Sculptural Object Techniques

Monday afternoons starting June 21st, 1-4 pm
8 week session, Cost includes one 25lb bag of clay

Anne will demonstrate clay fabrication into useful and decorative
objects including jewelry. This class is also open to more advanced
students who could work independently and use the potters wheels.
Home schooled or teen students off for the summer might also find
this class enjoyable.
Beginning and Intermediate Pottery
instructor: Shayne Scott
Monday evenings starting June 14, 6:30-9:30 pm.
8 week session, Cost includes one 25lb bag of clay $120/$90 for members
Shayne Scott who studied under and assisted Marvin
Bartel at Goshen College is leading this course into new projects. Hand
building with slabs and extrusions and throwing on the wheel will be
covered. See your projects through firing and glazing to create useful
and decorative pottery and objects. There will be a class project to
define qualities of glazes and introduction of some new ones. Group
discussion of results obtained from final firings will be held for
personal skill and method improvement.
Alla Prima Oil Painting (or Oil
Painting, Simplified)

Tuesday evenings starting June 15, 6:30 to 9:30 pm.
8 week session, Cost $80/$65 for members
Come enjoy exploring different aspects of direct oil
painting techniques. The goal of this class is to explore ways to
achieve different effects with oils and give students a variety of
approaches for working in oil. After a beginning demonstration each
student will be able to use the new technique on their own small
painting. Individual attention will be given to each student during the
class also. This class is open to all levels of painters. We will be
working both indoors and near the EAL building, depending on the weather
and the preferences of the class.

Beginning Watercolor

Wednesday mornings starting June 16th, 9-12 noon

Experience an enjoyable exploration of tools and techniques
to achieve a variety of effects in watercolor. An individualized
approach helps each student refine present skills with encouragement to
continue exploring independently.

This class is for
anyone with an interest in drawing and a desire to learn a variety of
basic to advanced techniques. More advanced students are welcome. The
direction of the class will be decided as a group but students will be
free to choose their own projects and area of study. Demos and
instruction can and will be provided to the group or individually as
needed.

June18 – Complementary Color Turtles delves into color mixing into
secondary colors and the “color wheel”.
June 25 – Blotto – A simple version of a monoprint in color, often
teaching that creation can happen by accident or discovery.
July 9 – Daydreaming with Marc Chagall will explore concepts or
surrealism and early cubism which Chagall employed. This will encourage
creativity from the child’s own imagination. |

Drawing Workshop

Alan has been teaching drawing at IUSB for 33 years, gaining
a reputation for providing an excellent grounding in basic observational
skills. While only a day and not a semester, it is still possible to get
a grasp of the essential elements needed to focus your work and be
better at what you do.
Subjects Covered:
Angle Measurement and Distance Comparison – a highly under-rated single
most important skill
Shape Drawing and the “Central Drawing Strategy” – to reason your way
through any drawing challenge
The Cylinder – often drawn incorrectly by unaware artists.
Gesture Drawing – like a golf swing that can be refined by close
analysis.
Stephen Blackburn Watercolor Workshop

For the past several years Mr. Blackburn has taught his
unique style of watercolor in classes and workshops all over the country
and in Canada. He was featured in the American Artist publication
"Watercolor - Summer 1997".
His image "Forgotten Treasure" was
included in the book "Best of Watercolor- Painting Composition" by
Rockport Publishers, and one of his paintings is featured in the book
"Best of Watercolor 3". Mr. Blackburn won the grand prize for his piece
"Sunbathe" during the international floral competition sponsored by
International Artist magazine in 2001, and his work was featured in the

to? Now is the time to do it. If you want to have fun with watercolor
and try easy ways to paint impressionist paintings with experimental
techniques, now is the time. We will use some different methods to paint
beautiful florals and abstracts. Beginner or experienced, get your
creative juices flowing, get inspired and have fun.
Don’t have supplies? Shana can provide you with supplies
that you’ll need. Just come to have a very good time. |
Three Saturdays Elkhart County Fair
Photography Workshop
July 17, 24 and 31 with Kay Westhues
Cost $50, meeting at the Printing Studio,
second floor at the Old Bag Factory in Goshen
For
students who have basic experience with digital cameras, and want to
take their skills to a new level.
July 17: meet from 10 am to noon: Discussion of exposure
control methods, file types obtainable, focus methods and flash
settings. Megapixels for enlargement sizes, tripod use and control of
perspective, composition, framing and depth of field will be covered.
July 24: Meet at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds at 10 am.
for photographing. Stay with group until 2 pm. or as long as desired. $8
or more needed for admission and lunch or snacks.
July 31: Meet from 10 am. to noon at the Printing Studio
with a memory stick or CD of edited photos taken at the fair for review
and critique.
Silkscreen Printing
Workshop with Brenda Leeka
July 24, Noon to 5pm. at the Printing Studio,
Second floor at the Old Bag Factory in Goshen
Cost $50 includes supplies
Traditional Techniques for Water Based Silkscreen.
Brenda will demonstrate a simple and economical set
up and produce multi-screen prints on paper. She is a
2010 graduate of IUSB and has won numerous awards
for her art.
Raku Firing Workshop

Pastel Landscape Workshop
with Phil Monteith, PSA
Saturday August 7, 9 am. to 5 pm., Cost $25
This class is
structured for the beginning student as well as those who
have worked with pastels. Practice basic techniques for
beginners, with suggestions for the more advanced students.
Subject matter will be landscapes.
You are encouraged to have as many pastels materials as
possible, vine charcoal, drawing board if you have one.
Please, NO Fixative. Paper will be provided and we have a
few pastels that can be used if you do not have any. Bring
a sack lunch |
