Creating in clay is an ancient craft in the production of utilitarian and ornamental works. The processes and techniques continue to develop and evolve in the 21st century. Elkhart Art League pottery classes foster exploring the many methodologies of clay craftsmanship and artistry to enrich the total learning experience.
The possibilities of working with clay are endless. Students will have opportunity to learn wheel throwing and hand building methods. Guidance in skill development for creating simple and complex ceramic forms, including pinch, slab, coil, thrown, and sculpting /modeling will be given. You can experience surface decorating techniques including slip decoration, sgraffito, decals and stenciling, and more. Demonstrations are given every week to suggest and guide projects. However students are welcome to explore projects of their own choosing.
