TUESDAY Summer Exploring Acrylic Painting Class with Dwight Luna
TUESDAY, June 3, 2025, through TUESDAY, July 22, 2025
Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m. Sessions are for 8 weeks.
Instructor: Dwight Luna, Local Award Winning Artist
Location: Elkhart Art League Studio, 131 Tyler Street #1-B, Elkhart IN 46516
Located in the West End of the Depot Building south of the Post Office.
Cost: $153 members/ $186 non-members
Includes instruction, painting kit, and open studio time on Thursday nights. (Teachers are not available during open studio.)
Whether you are a beginner who would like to learn the basics of painting with acrylics or a painter who would like to expand your skill set, this class will offer steps to help you succeed. You will learn to compose paintings, employ color theory, use brush techniques, and paint a variety of subjects. Note: All materials including a basic acrylic painting kit with paints, brushes, and canvas boards. Please bring a pencil, eraser, and old rags to help clean brushes.
Lesson Plans for Dwight’s Classes:
Week 1: Understanding materials and uses. Discuss color theory and composition. Begin drawing and underpainting.
Week 2: Continue work on first painting with instructor guidance.
Week 3: Continue first painting and start a second painting. Review color theory and composition.
Week 4: Continue second painting. Students will choose their next subject.
Weeks 5 to 8: Continue painting at an individual pace with instructor guidance.

Dwight Luna has been painting for more than 30 years. His works have garnered numerous awards in local shows, and he has been a featured speaker at the Midwest Museum of American Art.
